Do you always pick the right pump solution first time?
Bunny Hill, England
Bunny Hill booster station has aroused considerable interest in UK water-supply circles due to its innovative Grundfos solution.
The situation
When Bunny village's growing water-network required additional pressure, Severn Trent Water consulted Grundfos Pumps UK who came up with a complete, prepackaged booster station that minimised on-site activity/costs and any local disruption.
The Grundfos solution
Grundfos developed a standardised template that could be factory-fitted, on a mobile sub-frame, and pre-tested before moving on-site. This greatly reduced manpower requirements while its size (> 29m3, meaning planning permission was not necessary) and cable installation (in wiring trays under a false floor) makes any future service and maintenance notably easier and cheaper. Additionally, a built-in, acoustic shroud minimises noise emissions.
The outcome
The project's success is prompting Severn Trent to use similar solutions in the future. Grundfos has progressed from 'just' supplying pumps to developing a complete, engineered package in close collaboration with the customer, and is currently engaged in similar projects with many other UK water-supply companies.
