Water supply

Made for pumps by pump specialists

MP204

The MP 204 motor protection unit was developed especially for pumps by Grundfos pump specialists. Their objective was to bring you motor protection that is as reliable as it is simple to use. In effect, we did all the hard bits for you. The result is a unit that protects your pump 24 hours a day – and never loses sight of user-friendliness.

Protect your pumps against external threats

The MP 204 protects pump motors against undervoltage, overvoltage and other variations in power supply. So even if your external power supply is not entirely steady, your pump will continue its steady performance. Your pump motors will also be protected against the overheating that accompanies such variations and reduces pump lifetime.

Phase errors are a frequent cause of problems for pumps of this type. After you set the relevant phase (1 or 3) during set-up, the learning function of the MP 204 registers the correct phase and reacts if things are not right.

The MP 204 also monitors pump power consumption. As reduced power consumption is a strong indication that the pump is about to run dry, the MP 204 will immediately stop the pump if the power consumption drops below 60%.

Maximum uptime is ensured, preventing interruptions in boosting performance. All this in a unit that can be set up for operation in just 2 minutes.

Suitable for a wide range of pumps

The MP 204 is designed for use with the Grundfos SP, CR, NB/NK, TP, S, SE, SL and BM ranges. These high-quality pumps cover a wide span of pump application options, from groundwater supply to wastewater handling.

MP 204 can be used in all water utility applications

Ground water intake.

MP204

MP 204 can interpret irregularities and take the appropriate action to protect the motor and pump from damage. It can do this because it is specifically tuned in to the conditions that typically arise in a pump installation. For example, if a trip limit is exceeded because of dry running, the MP 204 is programmed to attempt to restart the pump after a set time before sending an alarm. If the water level in the well has been re-established, the incident is simply logged for later analysis.

Wastewater applications

MP204

The MP 204 can be integrated in the waste water controls e.g. Dedicated Controls to monitor energy consumption to detect over current or over temperature in your pumps. MP 204 is the intelligent choice to monitor waste water pumps.

The MP 204 – many monitoring options

The MP 204 monitors the following parameters:

  • Insulation resistance before start-up
  • Temperature (Tempcon, Pt sensor and PTC/thermal switch)
  • Overload/underload
  • Overvoltage/undervoltage
  • Phase sequence
  • Phase missing
  • Power factor
  • Power consumption
  • Harmonic distortion
  • Run and start capacitor (single-phase)
  • Operating hours and number of starts

A Complete Range — From 3 - 999 amps in one product

The trouble of choosing the right motor protection unit for your pump or motor is over. The MP204 covers the range from 3 to 999 amps as well as voltages from 80 to 610 VAC. And it is easily set up in under two minutes.

MP204

Easy installation

Installing the MP 204 is perfectly simple. It can be mounted by means of four screws onto any wall or back plate, or simply slid into place on a mounting rail. Wiring is equally straightforward, so installers will soon find themselves ready to set up the unit for operation.

MP204

Simple set-up in just 2 minutes

The set-up function is where the MP 204 really shines. The simple menu lets you complete the whole thing in just 2 minutes. The process comprises just four easy steps: once you have gained access to the menu by holding down the + and – buttons at the same time, you set the rated motor amps, the nominal voltage, the trip class, and the number of motor phases (1 or 3).

All by pressing just a few buttons. That’s it. After 2 minutes, the unit is set to go.

MP204

Trouble-free operation

After setting, there’s not much more to say: The MP 204 will protect the pump motor night and day without any fuss. End-users won’t have to worry about dry-running. Ever. And they can even rest assured that their motor protection unit is ready for future system requirements due to its GENIBus compatibility.

Stay in touch from a distance

We believe in open protocols. That is why your MP204 solution can be connected to any SCADA system, allowing you remote access to your pump data anywhere. You can control the pump, change the settings, and access information such as energy consumption, alarms and operation data. Connections can be created either via wired networks or wireless technology such as GPRS/GSM networks. If you choose WebAccess via Grundfos Remote Management system (GRM), you can communicate via your computer, the Internet, or via mobile phones as you choose.

Helps reduce costs

Taking complete control has many advantages. The time spent on reporting, data collection, etc. is minimised – as are service visits. When you always know how your stations are doing, maintenance visits can be scheduled for maximum efficiency – and emergencies reduced to the barest minimum.

Accessories

We want to complete your solution with a wide range of accessories. Please find some of these below.

Module Description
External current transformers External current transformers When fitted with external current transformers, the MP 204 unit can handle currents from 120 to 999A. Grundfos can deliver approved current transformers from stock (200/5A, 300/5A, 500/5A, 750/5A, 1000/5A).
Input/Output module IO 112 The IO 112 is a measuring module and a 1-channel protection unit for use in connection with the MP 204 motor protection unit. The module can be used for protection of pump against other factors than the electrical conditions, for instance dry-running. It can also be used as a stand-alone protection module. The IO 112 interface has:
  • three inputs for measured values
  • one potentiometer for setting of limits
  • indicator lights indicating the
  • measured value of the input
  • value of the limit set
  • alarm source
  • pump status
Communication Interface Unit (CIU) Communication Interface Unit The CIM/CIU communication interfaces enables a wide range of Grundfos products to communicate via various communications standards. The interfaces support the following fieldbus standards:
  • LON
  • Profibus DP
  • Modbus RTU
Furthermore it is based on standard functional profiles, it is easy to install and commission, and it has a flexible power supply
